CISC Manitoba/NW Ontario region, the Manitoba Ministry of Education & Training and the Manitoba Construction Sector Council launched the very first Structural Steel Fabricators Fitters course in Winnipeg, MB on November 13, 2018.

Over the course of the next eight weeks, students will be learning a specially designed curriculum in a classroom format, in addition to in-shop experience at various CISC member locations. Each student will participate in a number of hands-on activities, which include using small hand tools, jib cranes, welding equipment, overhead cranes, as well as an exciting virtual reality component. The course is being presented by Axis Inspection and will be hosted across the province at Axis Inspection, Shopost Ltd., Abexco Ltd., Captiol Steel, Apost Ltd. and Supreme Steel. This provides the students the best learning experience and the opportunity to practice in the most pertinent facilities in the steel construction industry.

This new and unique initiative is being developed as an ongoing course for present and future fabricators through other CISC regions and local community colleges in Manitoba/NW Ontario. Students have shown a strong desire to learn and have been engaged during the launch of this pilot project!

We’re very excited to take this journey with this first batch of students and we look forward to graduation day in the new year!
