It is with great sadness that Solid Rock Steel announces the passing of our founder Berend (Benny) C. Steunenberg, aged 90, on Monday January 8th , 2024.
The sadness of his passing is overpowered by a wonderful legacy of love, generosity & faith. His dying wish was for us to rejoice and so we choose to celebrate the life and career of Benny.
In Holland, at 12 years of age, Benny choose the metal trade for his career and upon his immigration to Canada, as a 19 year old, he soon started honing his skills in various steel fabricating companies. At the age of 32, with the encouragement of a friend, he founded SRS in the fall of 1965 and after 43 years of hard work, dedication, leadership & mentorship he retired in 2008. His memories fill the folklore of SRS lineage. We rejoice that he passed away peacefully and content in his recliner at his home in Fort Langley, surrounded by family.
He’s survived by his wife of over 65 years, Greetje (Grace), his (9) sons, (7) daughters in-law, (27) grandchildren and (19) great-grandchildren.
