Federal
The Federal Gov’t has made daily announcements to assist business and employees with the economic impact of the pandemic. Support for business entails emergency wage subsidies, deferred payments of taxes, access to credit and support for self-employed individuals. There are also a vast number of support programs for individuals. With respect to construction, their jurisdiction is limited to Federal projects and restricted to the construction site only. The Federal government has outlined what it deems to be essential projects.

Provincial
Governments of BC, AB, SK, MB, PE, NB, NS and NL have deemed construction and manufacturing (fabrication) essential meaning construction sites and fabrication plants are open provided the site or plant maintain safe workplaces under the respective provincial guidelines. Construction sites in Quebec and Ontario are generally closed with the exception of a limited list of essential type projects. Manufacturing (fabrication) remains free to operate in Ontario, while restricted or limited in Quebec. We are seeing both signs of tightening and relaxing of operational rules with respect to construction on a weekly basis.
The provinces are also beginning to announce programs in addition to the federal government. To date, BC and AB have already announced the formation of joint economic recovery councils that will be assisting the government on recovery programs and projects.
