The ability to resist blast loading is increasingly becoming a requirement for structures around the world. Tubular steel members are ideal elements for this application due to their geometry and ability to withstand large plastic deformations without collapse. Research is being performed to advance knowledge regarding the performance and design of full-scale tubular steel sections under blast loading. This research programme involves experimental investigations of cold-formed, square HSS and subsequent analysis using Single Degree of Freedom modeling and non-linear, dynamic, finite element analysis.

With the support of the G.J. Jackson Fellowship, Cameron Ritchie completed his second year of graduate studies in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto.
