On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC-ICCA) Quebec Region celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the Steel Construction Awards of Excellence, at the Palace Convention Center, offering a welcome cocktail and a gourmet buffet, to a full house of guests.
The evening was hosted by Stéphane Bélanger; funny, impactful, impressive, and extravagant! The theme for the 22nd anniversary was “THE CISC IS THE LINK THAT UNITES THE STEEL INDUSTRY”, illustrating the leadership and contribution of the steel industry to the Quebec and Canadian economy as well as its North American footprint. The Quebec steel industry is a dynamic industry, a real driver of innovation, job creation and economic growth in Quebec.
The CISC Awards for Excellence in Steel Construction is a signature and prestigious event. Teams are rewarded for delivering their exceptional steel projects, showcasing complexity, innovation, beauty, uniqueness, and originality, among many other attributes.
The event highlighted amazing projects that demonstrate the beauty, resilience, and durability of steel, proving the benefits of choosing steel.
Ed Whalen, President of the CISC, Dr. Hellen Christodoulou, Director of Steel Industry and Market Development, Mr. David Drouin, Vice-President of the Camnor Group, chairman of the regional committee and Mr. Luc St- Pierre Regional Sales Manager of the Canam Group, the steel sponsor of the event, addressed their welcome messages to the participants.
Quebec teams were rewarded for their exceptional achievements in steel, presenting complex and innovative steel construction projects through their beauty, uniqueness, and originality. Each year, professionals, and leaders in the field of steel construction submit their projects. This year among the candidates 48 finalists were chosen.
The distinguished jury selected winners in each of the 9 categories.

Benoît Drouin
November 1955 – March 2022
The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Quebec Region presented a Heritage Award to Benoit Drouin, in recognition of his contribution to the success of the steel industry. During all these years, he provided determined leadership with passion. Benoit left an empty place with the steel industry, a great brand and above all great values. Annie Cadieux, General Manager – Quebec Region of Leroux Steel – Heritage Award Sponsors presented the commemorative plaque to the sons of Benoit Drouin, David, and Jean-René Drouin.
