The CISC BC Region Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction 2026 is the region’s premier celebration of innovation, creativity, and achievement in steel. Recognized as one of Canada’s most prestigious industry events, it highlights projects that showcase complexity, originality, and beauty. Each year, hundreds of nominations are submitted by engineers, architects, fabricators, contractors, and developers — the visionaries and builders driving the steel construction industry forward.

A distinguished jury of renowned architects, engineers, and steel experts carefully selects the finalists, with winners revealed during the highly anticipated Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner. More than an evening of recognition, the event is a vibrant celebration of the talent, passion, and innovation that define Canada’s steel construction community, offering project teams the spotlight while uniting the industry in admiration and applause. 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Welcome Reception
A relaxed opening reception to greet guests and begin the evening.

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Dinner and Awards Ceremony
Celebrating outstanding achievements in steel construction across the BC region.

9:00 PM – 10:00 PM: Closing Reception

Keynote Speaker of the Evening Brian Burke

An accomplished executive whose career has been highlighted by winning a Stanley Cup and an Olympic silver medal, Brian Burke’s passion and contributions to the betterment of the game of hockey have touched every level of the sport.

His list of accomplishments includes serving as former General Manager for the Hartford Whalers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, and Anaheim Ducks; as former SVP and Director of Hockey Operations for the NHL; and as President of Hockey Operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins. His most recent role was serving as the first-ever Executive Director of the Professional Women’s Hockey League Players’ Association.

Burke has also worked in broadcasting during his career, including as an analyst for Corus, SiriusXM, Rogers, and Sportsnet, and has served in numerous board positions for both corporate and charitable organizations.

A strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, Burke established the You Can Play Project, which targets homophobia and promotes safety and inclusion in sports, in honor of his late son, Brendan. He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023.
