TORONTO, ON (JULY 16, 2025) — “Today, Prime Minister Carney announced additional targeted measures to support Canada’s steel industry during a visit to Walters Group, a member of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC), in Hamilton, Ontario.
These measures demonstrate that the federal government is listening to the concerns of steel sector stakeholders, including fabricators, in responding to the ongoing trade challenges.
The actions announced today will help the Canadian steel industry navigate these challenging times. The CISC welcomes the strengthened efforts to curb foreign steel imports, particularly from non-compliant countries such as China, whose unfair trade practices continue to harm our domestic market.
Additionally, the government’s prioritization of Canadian steel and fabrication in taxpayer-funded infrastructure projects will support Canadian steel fabricators not only through this difficult period but well into the future.
There is still work to be done to fully support the sector, but today’s announcement is a positive step forward.”
