Job Title: Manager Education and Research

Reports to: VP Operations

Supervises: 1

Job Purpose: To develop, coordinate and manage new and existing training programs, research, scholarships and interactions with educational institutions. Manage and coordinate activities and initiatives to align with CISC Strategic Plan.

 

Key Results:

      1. Management of the Department
        Identify and coordinate the development of and the implementation of training courses, training publications and educational books in a timely and professional manner to meet budget and the changing needs of the steel industry.
        • Prepares and maintains budget to meet the strategic goals and expectations of the business plan
        • Assists in the development of a CISC Strategic Plan and divisional Business Plan
        • Track financial revenues and expenses for each line of programs and ensure they meet or exceed budget
        • Identifies and enlists competent course instructors.
        • Develops and maintains KPI’s for the department, monitoring and measuring outcomes and correcting direction where required
        • Implement and maintain a Balanced Scorecard in line with the Strategic Plan and departments objectives and initiatives
        • Coordinate financial training requirements with the Manager Accounting
        • Continuously develop new courses annually or as specified by Strategic Plan or divisional Business Plan
        • Develops methods of training that are demanded by industry including the use of on- demand web based learning
        • Expands training programs to include course for all steel industry stakeholders
        • Advises the E&R Council as to programmes, budget, resources, funding, etc. to successfully execute the Strategic and Business Plan
        • Manage the implementation of funding, research, development, promotion, and marketing consistent with the budget
        • Provides timely communication to the VP Operations, President and E&R Council in a professional manner
        • Participates in Codes, Standards or other committees for the benefit of the CISC and steel industry as directed
        • to assist the CISC Solution Centre in development and/or presentation of technical materials, courses or materials
        • to assist in Project Solutions activities.

     

      1. Supervision & Leadership
        • Provides positive and constructive communication and feedback to applicable direct reports
        • Ensures that performance evaluations are conducted annually (anniversary date) or more frequently as required
        • Monitors the development of staff on a regular basis
        • Recommends training for staff and ensure that approved training is completed
        • Ensures that your team is seen as a positive group/department within the organization
        • Promotes and communicated positively the direction and strategy of the organization

     

      1. Other duties as assigned
        • Performs all other assigned duties in a professional and helpful manner commensurate with the CISC Employee Handbook’s policies and procedures.

     

    1. Job Requirements
      • College degree
      • 5 ‐10 years’ experience in structural steel, construction and/or education is an asset
      • Experience with management of training programs is an asset
      • Experience with on-line training programs is an asset
      • Supervisory or management experience
