On Monday, November 11th, the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC-ICCA) of the Quebec Region celebrated the 21st anniversary of the Steel Awards for Excellence in Steel Construction, at one of the most historic venues in Canada, the prestigious Montreal ‘The Windsor’, offering a welcome cocktail, a gourmet 3-course dinner, in a packed hall. The evening was hosted by Stéphanie Levesque (animator, columnist, author, cabinetmaker).

The theme for the 21st anniversary was “THROUGHOUT CANADA WE ARE STEEL“, illustrating the leadership and contribution of the steel industry to the Quebec and Canadian economy and its North American footprint. The event highlighted amazing projects that demonstrate the beauty, resilience and durability of steel, proving the benefits of choosing steel.

Guests of honor and sponsors gave greetings. Among them were the Honorable Senator Rosa Galvez, Robert Beaudry, Executive Committee Member responsible for Economic Development, Commercial, Housing and Design, City of Montreal and Julie Proulx, Director Investment Construction and Building Materials, Vice-Chair industries, Solidarity Fund FTQ.

At this regional event, organized by Dr. Hellen Christodoulou, Quebec Region Manager, the Quebec teams were rewarded for their outstanding achievements in steel construction, presenting steel projects complex and innovative by their beauty, uniqueness and originality. Tribute to the Veterans

The gala theme on November 11th highlighted that the CISC Quebec Region was the first to pay tribute to our veterans. The region celebrated the day by presenting a monument to the Canadian Military Engineer Association. They were very proud to welcome representatives from the Canadian Military Engineer Association, members of the Canadian Military Family for the commemorative presentation.

Dr. Christodoulou announced that the Canadian Museum of Military Engineering will be its  new home “I hope it’s a source of inspiration for future generations.” Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) Luc Ouellet, President, and Sandra F. Johnson Penney, Curator of the Canadian Military Engineer Museum, shared their messages.

A Special Tribute

The Quebec Region of the CISC gave an award as a tribute to Michel Vaillancourt for his contribution to the success of the steel industry and wished him a well-deserved retirement.

Dr. Hellen Christodoulou, Quebec Region Manager, reiterated, “We are working together to ensure the future prosperity of our industries, businesses and communities. We must emphasize the importance of our industry. Together, we make a significant contribution to the beautification and economy of our province, Canada and North America. As I always say, we must continually share this message!
