Salary and Benefits: $125,000 annually, pension match & health spending account
Supervises: Graphics Designer and Marketing Communication Co-Ordinator
Job Purpose: To direct, lead, and manage the CISC government relations, marketing and communications team in a
professional and proactive manner leading to membership growth, growth in revenue of products and
services, increased membership value and satisfaction, enhanced government advocacy and increased
market share for steel in Canada.
Key Results:
1. Positive and Effective Leadership and Management of the Department
- Works with the President and CEO to manage the organization, including the development and
execution of the CISC Vision, Strategic Plan and related CISC Business Plans - Takes an entrepreneurial approach in developing, directing and executing the department Business
Plans (e.g. Marketing, Communication, Government Relations/Advocacy) - Develops and executes separate marketing and business plans for all products and services, meeting
budget and strategic goals - Works with the President and CEO to ensure CISC is a well-respected and impactful industry voice on
Parliament Hill, in provincial legislatures and in municipalities across Canada - Works with the President and CEO and peer directors to prepare and maintain budgets to meet the
strategic goals and expectations of the overall organization - Tracks financial revenues and expenses for each line of services
- Completes identified projects and initiatives on time and on budget
- Develops and maintains KPIs for each department of responsibility
- Effectively communicates with staff, Regions, members, associates, stakeholders and the public in
general - Maintains and preserves the standards of excellence, reputation and esteem of CISC
- Follows and maintains internal policies and procedures and ensures that the CISC complies with all
external governmental regulations as applicable - Supervises and manages the activities of each applicable department
- Mentors and supervises direct reports and sub‐contractors to ensure conformance, consistency, high performance and quality
- Conducts annual reviews in a timely fashion consistent with the CISC performance review format
- Ensures the team works effectively and positively with other departments
- Provides departmental training to all CISC staff as required
- Ensures that staff are provided continuous education opportunities related to the objectives of the organization and department
- Prepares and presents presentations as required
- Maintains a culture of continuous improvement
- Maintains and improves membership/associate value and satisfaction
- Works with the President and CEO, and peer Directors, to manage and report to the CISC Board of Directors

- Marketing
a. Control and enhance the Brand of the CISC
b. Promote steel in building projects across the country, leading to increased market share for
members
c. Marketing of all products and services to membership
d. Annual Report
e. Website
f. Marketing collateral
g. Marketing services for Regions and Business Initiatives staff
h. Assisting in a general alignment of National and Regional Marketing Plans
i. Development and production of case studies
j. Research and studies
k. Graphics and video production for all departments
- Communications
a. CISC print magazine (Advantage Steel) and monthly email communique
b. CISC National quarterly member and associate communication
c. Preparation of government relations and press communications
d. Updating of all media platforms to ensure timely and effective communication
e. Social media
f. Preparation, management and execution of steel articles
g. Manage internal communications to ensure CISC staff are fully informed and aligned
- Advocacy
a. Work with the President and CEO to build in-house government relations and advocacy
capacity and coordinate the work of outside advocacy consultants
b. Leverage members and volunteers to aid in government relations and advocacy
c. Create communications and marketing materials that advance the advocacy goals of
members and industry
3. Other duties as assigned
- Performs all other assigned duties in a professional and helpful manner commensurate
with the CISC Employee Handbook’s policies and procedures.
4. Job Requirements
- Degree, diploma or industry recognition in Advocacy, Marketing and/or Communication
- Experience in marketing of products and/or services
- Experience in management of communications
- Experience in use and coordination of social media for marketing products and services
- Experience in government relations and advocacy
- Supervisory or management experience
- Association experience is an asset
- Though CISC has employees outside of Ontario, it is preferred that this position be able to work in
the Markham head office on our two anchor days (Tuesday, Thursday) - Excellent communications verbally and written in English
- French is considered an asset
