What type of stainless steel should I be asking for in my specifications? The structure is made of small tubular sections, 60 mm in diameter, welded onto plates, then bolted. - S. C.-M. 5/1/2004
For all questions related to stainless steel, please refer to Nickel Development Institute (NiDI). The North American office is in Toronto. They can be reached at 416-591-7999. I had the chance to contact the NiDi, and they told me that the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) would also be a good reference, specifically as they have a section on "structural design information". This question appeared in the "Ask Dr. Sylvie" column of Advantage Steel no. 19, Spring 2004.
