What are typical suggested hole diameters for anchor rods? - G.H. 10/1/2008
Another secret of the Handbook revealed. Look up the table SUGGESTED ANCHOR ROD HOLE SIZES at the bottom of page 4-153 of the Handbook (9th Edition). The hole diameters are either 6 or 12 mm larger than the actual rod diameters; for rod diameters ranging from 20 to 64 mm in the table. Note: the expression “anchor rod” has replaced “anchor bolt” in order to avoid confusion with bolts produced to ASTM A325 and A490 (See ASTM F1554). This question appeared in the "Ask Dr. Sylvie" column of Advantage Steel no. 32, Fall 2008.
