Steel Bridges - Design, Fabrication, Construction 2002

(April 2002)

These design notes are intended as a reference document to aid in the design of the superstructure for steel-concrete composite bridges consisting of plate girders or box girders of straight or curved configurations.

This publication illustrates the design of 4 multi-span steel bridges in accordance with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC, CAN/CSA-S6-00):

  1. Straight plate girder bridge
  2. Straight box girder bridge
  3. Curved plate girder bridge
  4. Curved box girder bridge

The treatment of Examples 2, 3 and 4 is less comprehensive than Example 1 in order to avoid duplication. This publication supersedes an earlier "Steel Bridges - Design, Fabrication and Construction" based on the Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code (OHBDC), 3rd Edition, 1991.
