Gilmore Station is part of the new Vancouver Millennium Line, extension to the above grade transit system for the Greater Vancouver Area. The stations were part of a high design initiative by the Rapid Transit Authority.

Gilmore Station uses a combination of steel framing, tensioning cables and stressed wood panels to create the canopy that covers the platform waiting area. The use of steel tensioning allows for a very unusual lightweight roof structure.

More information on the design and construction of the Millennium Line stations is available through the Steel Structures Education Foundation CD-ROM, Volume Two. See www.ssef-ffca.ca for more details.
