The Head Office of Waiward Steel won the 2001 CISC Alberta Region Award in the Architectural Category.
There can be no doubt as to the nature of Waiward Steel’s business to visitors approaching their new office building. It was designed specifically to showcase the beauty and strength of the steel used in their business. Decorative box trusses on the building exterior illustrate the use of steel throughout the building. Staff movement across the large central atrium is facilitated by steel box truss bridges joining opposite sides at the second and third floor levels. A pedway, also constructed as a steel box-truss, connects the new office building to the adjacent fabrication plant.
The main stair in the atrium uses a solid steel plate to form the stringers for the stair. Curved steel plate forms the entrance and vestibule canopy. |
